A free course from Bob Caine

LeadsLeap Unlocked

I bought a course about LeadsLeap, read all 36 chapters, and found enough wrong with it that I rewrote the whole thing. What's left is an honest way to build an email list on one free platform.

Last month I bought a course about LeadsLeap. Thirty-six chapters. I read every one of them, which I suspect puts me in a small minority of the people who bought it.

Parts of it were good. Better than most of what gets sold in this corner of the internet, the core argument was right, and a few chapters were genuinely useful.

And parts of it I would not put my name on.

It quoted statistics that don't exist. A three hundred percent lift here, a fourteen thousand percent return there - numbers with no source, stated as fact. It promised a specific dollar figure per subscriber as if that were a law of nature rather than a rule of thumb from a different industry in a different decade. It taught tactics that would get your account closed, and one that would get you banned from Reddit inside a week.

Then there was the part that made me sit back.

The whole system is built on the promise that LeadsLeap gives you everything you need for free. Module 1 walks you through it, the page builder, the autoresponder, the tracker, all of it, no cost. Then somewhere around Module 4, without a word of explanation, the instructions quietly switch to a different platform. A paid one. You don't find out until you've done the work and hit the wall.

I spent an afternoon looking for the connection I'd missed. There wasn't one. It was just wrong.

So I rewrote it.

What you'll find here is what's left after I took out the invented numbers, the tactics that create real risk, and the income math nobody can back up. It's shorter than what I started with. It's also true, which the original wasn't always.

I am 78. I don't have time to promote things I have to defend.

I'm not going to tell you this will make you money. I'll tell you what the system does, what it actually costs in hours, and how long it took me and let you decide whether that's a trade you want to make.

Is this for you?

This is for you if

This is not for you if

What you will actually build

One thing: an email list of people who asked to hear from you, and a short sequence of emails that goes out automatically after they join.

That's it. Every module here serves that single outcome.

Here is why it matters more than it sounds. Most people promoting something online send a visitor straight to a sales page. Most visitors do not buy - that is true of every sales page ever built, and anyone quoting you an exact percentage is guessing. When they leave, they are gone. You paid for that click with either money or an hour of your time, and you got one chance at them.

Capture the email first and the same click buys you something different. Now you can talk to that person next week, and next month, and next year. You're not asking a stranger to decide about you on the strength of one page. You're building something you own, that nobody can take away, that works whether or not any particular platform is still around in three years.

That one change is most of the difference between the people this works for and the people who quit.

You'll use four tools. Ignore the rest.

The first time you log into LeadsLeap you'll see a menu with more items on it than you know what to do with. This is where most people freeze, click around for twenty minutes, and never come back.

You need four of them. Everything else can wait until you have a working system to attach it to.

Two columns comparing LeadsLeap tools. Left: the four tools used in this course — page manager, list manager, link tracker, and ads and credits. Right: eight features to ignore until module 8.

Four tools. Everything in the right-hand column still works, and some of it is genuinely good. It just cannot help you until you have something for it to point at.

And it is free to start

Here is the part I checked before I wrote any of this, because it is the part the course I bought got wrong.

All four of those tools work on a free LeadsLeap account. Not a trial. Not free until you hit a limit and then a card is required. Free, with a ceiling.

The ceiling is this. On the free account you earn the traffic instead of buying it, which means you spend about half an hour a day viewing other people's ads to build up credits for your own. That is a real cost. It is time rather than money, and if you have more time than money it is the better trade, but I am not going to pretend it is nothing.

There is a paid tier. It removes the daily viewing, and it does a few other things. I am not going to bring it up again until Module 7, and when I do it will be with your own numbers in front of you rather than mine. By then you will have six weeks of logged hours and you will be able to work out whether it is worth it for you. Some people should upgrade. Some should keep going as they are.

That is a decision you cannot make honestly today, so we are not going to make it today.

What you will not find here is a course that says free and then quietly needs a paid platform to work. That is what happened to me, and it is most of the reason this page exists. Modules 1 through 3 are free and always will be. If the later modules are ever worth charging for, I will say the price out loud, on this page, before you have spent an hour on it.

The eight modules

One module a week, for eight weeks. The reading is short on purpose. The building is what fills the week.

Module 1 - Why the list is the only thing you own The argument first, the software second. What actually happens to a visitor when you send them straight to an offer, and what happens instead when you ask for an email first. Read: 20 minutes · Build: 45 minutes

Module 2 - Something worth an email address Nobody hands over an email address for "free tips." What works is one specific thing that solves one problem in one sitting. This module is about making that thing, and making it small enough to finish. Read: 20 minutes · Build: 3–4 hours

Module 3 - The page that asks One headline, one promise, one field, one button. You will not start from a blank screen - there are share codes that import a working page you can change the words on. Read: 15 minutes · Build: 2 hours

Module 4 - Your first twenty visitors How the credit system works, how to write an ad someone actually clicks, and the daily half hour. Twenty visitors is not a business. It is proof the machine is wired correctly, and it comes before the hard part on purpose. Read: 20 minutes · Build: 30 minutes a day

Module 5 - What to say to people who just joined The module people freeze at. They have subscribers and no idea what to write. We write the welcome email together, line by line. Read: 25 minutes · Build: 3–4 hours

Module 6 - The sequence that runs without you What arrives on which day and why the order matters. Then the automation that connects the page to the list to the emails, so it runs whether or not you are at the desk. Read: 25 minutes · Build: 3 hours

Module 7 - Reading your own numbers Three numbers, and how to tell a traffic problem from an offer problem - because the fix is completely different and most people guess wrong. This is also where the paid-account conversation lives. Read: 20 minutes · Build: 15 minutes, then 10 minutes a week

Module 8 - Month three The module nobody writes. The novelty is gone, the numbers are small, and the work is just work. What to do anyway. Read: 20 minutes · Build: ongoing

New to any of this? Start with the basics, in plain English ➔ Affiliate marketing, lists, autoresponders, landing pages, credits, commissions. Definitions only, no strategy. Skip it if none of those words gave you pause.

Do them in order

I know how tempting it is to skip to Module 4, because Module 4 is where the visitors show up and the first three are where the work is.

Do not.

Each module builds the thing the next one needs. Module 3 puts up a page that asks for an email address, and it has nothing to offer in exchange unless you did Module 2. Module 4 sends people to that page, and there is no page unless you did Module 3. Skipping ahead does not save you a week. It costs you one, because you arrive somewhere with nothing to do and conclude the system does not work.

Read ahead all you like. Build in order.
